Another Accolade for Oakham’s Green Devil IPA at the Cheltenham Beer Festival
Peterborough based brewery – Oakham Ales – award-winning Green Devil IPA (6.0% A.B.V.), has recently won another accolade. Earlier this year it was crowned SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) Supreme Champion Beer for 2012, and was recently selected ‘Beer of the Festival’ out of fifty real ales from twenty-seven breweries at the seventh Cheltenham Beer Festival.
Green Devil IPA was selected by the ten-person tasting panel, with competing beers originating from Gloucestershire as well as further afield.
The festival raised in excess of £11,000 for the Cheltenham Samaritans via ticket sales, brewers providing discounted beer and sponsorship support from local companies and individuals.
Leigh Norwood, judge and one of the organisers of the festival says: “Oakham’s Green Devil IPA impressed all of the judges for its outstanding character both in aroma and taste. It was felt that it had a great balance between the malt backbone and the superb hop presence. A great conditioned beer that hid its strength very well.“
Adrian Posnett, managing director, Oakham Ales comments: “Our Green Devil IPA seems to be winning the hearts of both brewers and consumers. I know we were up against some tough competition at the Cheltenham Festival and so winning ‘Beer of the Festival’ is all the sweeter. We are also proud to be associated with the Cheltenham Samaritans who continue to provide a fantastic service to the community”.
