Oakham Ales Green Devil IPA has been awarded the Gold Medal in its category in this bi-annual competition after a three-day judging session at the National Brewery Centre in Burton-upon-Trent. The beer was named Champion Cask Ale at The International Brewing Awards 2013.
A panel of 43 judges assessed close to 1,000 beers and ciders submitted from 50 countries. The medal winners came from 23 different countries and a broad spectrum of producers from regional micro-brewers to multi-national companies.
Adrian Posnett, Managing Director of Oakham Ales commented: “To be awarded the Gold Medal in the category after winning Champion Cask Ale for Green Devil IPA last time the competition was held, in 2013, is praise indeed, especially as we are competing internationally.”
Chair of judges Bill Taylor said, “The standard of entries this year was again extremely high and our judging panel put in long hours tasting and debating the merits of the beers and ciders, to arrive at a consensus on the medal winners. Brewers and cider makers who entered this competition can be confident that their product received quality consideration from our judges.”
The multi-award winning Green Devil IPA has an A.B.V of 6%. It has a fantastic hop harvest aroma with tropical fruit bursting through. Starting with smooth and fruity passion fruit, pineapple and mango the beer later develops into lemon, limes and a citrusy bitterness. Green Devil IPA finishes with a crisp refreshing dry aftertaste.
The Awards are unique in requiring that all judges are currently working as brewers or cider makers. Oakham Ales will now attend the Awards luncheon at London Guildhall on the 29th April 2015 to learn which beer will be named overall champion.
